WFDF Announces Updates for World Team Disc Golf Championships
28 March 2017
The World Flying Disc Federation (“WFDF”) is pleased to announce that the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) has confirmed that it will sanction the WFDF 2017 World Team Disc Golf Championships (WTDGC) at the XA tier level. In addition, team registration for the WTDGC has been extended to June 9th in the light of considerable interest from many countries that have asked for an extension to the registration process. WTDGC will be held August 23-26 in Colchester, England and it will be hosted by DiscZoo. Teams must be submitted by national disc sports federations who are World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) members, or by the national disc golf association for countries where disc golf is not part of a national disc sports body or a direct member of WFDF.
“Following the successful debut of this event in 2016 in Vancouver, Canada … WFDF is aiming to attract as many as 24 countries to compete for the chance to be crowned World Team Champions this year,” stated Brian Hoeniger, PDGA International Director. “The PDGA wishes WFDF, Disc Zoo and the Tournament Organizing Committee (TOC) all possible success in the organization and delivery of the 2017 World Team Championships, and looks forward to collaborating with future editions of this prestigious event.”
“WFDF is excited to see the expansion of the WTDGC this year and we appreciate the support of PDGA and host DiscZoo,” stated WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch. “We encourage maximum participation to more fully develop true world championship participation for the exciting and fast growing sport of Disc Golf.”
All registration deadlines for payments of team fees and accommodation costs will remain the same for registered teams. Team deposits are due by 21st April and all Accommodation Fees and final Team Payments are due by June 9th. This will allow teams to register up to June 9th as long as there is space available. Any team registering after 21st April will be expected to pay their team deposit at the time of registration. All fees must still be paid by June 9th.
Each team must send a minimum of 6 players: 3 Open Men, 1 Woman, 1 Masters aged or older player, and 1 Junior. In the case of countries which are unable to meet all of these criteria (because, for example, they are not able to field a Junior player) the event is offering a dispensation clause whereby a player below a certain ratings threshold can be substituted in place.
WFDF has already attracted interest from 15 teams from Europe, North America, Africa and Asia with a further 5 teams from Europe and S America expected to register. Any players wishing to represent their country should also contact either their National Disc Golf Association or directly to WFDF Events Manager Karina Woldt at
