WFDF at The World Games Cali 2013 – latest information received

WFDF representatives met with the 2013 The World Games Organisers from Cali during Sportaccord in London. The Ultimate event will take place from 28 to 30 July 2013 in the Pascual Guerrero Main Stadium. Six teams with a total quota of 78 athletes are going to compete. A delegation comprised of President Robert “Nob” Rauch, Executive Director Volker Bernardi, Ultimate Chair Simon Hill, and Board member Fumio Morooka met with the officials of the The World Games Cali 2013 Organizing Committee on April 6 in London during the SportAccord Conference. Also attending was IWGA Secretary General and Sports Director Joachim Gossow. In this meeting, WFDF was officially presented with the details of our participation in TWG in 2013, which are as follows:

 Discipline: Ultimate  Competition begins: Sunday 28 July 2013  Competition ends: Tuesday 30 July 2013  Venue: Pascual Guerrero Olympic Stadium (35,000 spectators), plus second field  Arrival Date: Friday 26 July 2013  Departure Date: Wednesday 31 July 2013  Athletes: 78 (six teams of 13 players)  Officials: 15 Medals: 39 (13 each for gold, silver, and bronze)

Separately from WFDF’s logistics meeting, Mr. Pascual Guerrero, president of the executive committee of the The World Games Cali 2013 spoke on Tuesday 5 April at the International World Games Association annual general meeting. In his presentation, Mr. Guerrero emphasized his commitment to responsibility to the environment, summed up in their slogan “Fair Play to the Planet.” He specifically highlighted Ultimate of all sports as best representing this commitment, through our dedication to the “spirit of the game” requiring personal responsibility for fair play and through our gender equality manifestation by showcasing our mixed division in The World Games competition.
