The deadline to register teams for the BULA & WFDF World Championships of Beach Ultimate (WCBU) is Sunday, August 31.  This major Beach Ultimate event will be held 08-13 March 2015 on the JBR beach in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

So far, 71 teams from 22 countries have confirmed their participation through their national federations – including Great Britain, USA, Australia, the Philippines, South Africa, and India.

Teams from Uganda and Cambodia are making serious efforts to attend, with Team Kenya reaching nearly a third of its $9,000 fundraising goal. This will be the first time Canada plans to send more than one team, and Japan has said it will likely send teams in all divisions. The Philippines will also send three teams for the first time.

Dubai is a unique place to host the World Championships. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a multi-cultural society with a rich culture and history and is home to more than 200 nationalities. The futuristic country has great accommodations close to the beach, and a reliable and affordable transportation system.

While the UAE is different from many Western countries – and players and visitors have to be tolerant and accepting of local customs and laws – it is predominantly an expatriate community with a thriving nightlife and social scene.

The opening game will be from the Women’s division to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8, 2015. Unlike many other countries in the region, women hold significant positions in the government, on the boards of local businesses and make up more than 70 percent of the students enrolled in UAE universities. The local UAE Ultimate association has prioritized encouraging women to participate in the sport. In addition to women’s clinics hosted in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the UAE will field a Women’s team at WCBU2015.
