The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that the WFDF 2017 World Championships of Beach Ultimate, in association with BULA (WCBU 2017) will be held at Plage de la Grande Conche in Royan, France from Sunday, 18 June to Saturday, 24 June 2017. The French Flying Disc Federation (FFDF) will oversee the Tournament Organizing Committee made up of an experienced team from the local regional league “Flying Disc Poitou Charentes,” members of the FFDF, and local France Sport sponsors and partners.
“It is exciting to welcome FFDF as host of its first major WFDF event, as they have had increasing involvement in WFDF international events over the last decade as their program has flourished. Beach Ultimate is growing quickly and this is now one of the most popular championships on our event calendar,” commented WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch. “This is a great venue and a very experienced organizing team and we have full confidence that this will be an event to remember.”
It is expected that Royan will host over 1,200 athletes from 30 countries on the sunny beaches along the Atlantic Ocean in southwestern France. The FFDF has a great relationship with the community in Royan as the beach has been the chosen venue for the National French Beach Championships six times since 2009.
Franck Leygues, President of the FFDF, commented “We are really happy and honored to host the WFDF 2017 World Championship of Beach Ultimate in 2017. We warmly thank WFDF for their confidence in selecting us to organize this premier championship. Royan 2017 will be a high quality event for the players but will also contribute to the development of Flying Disc in this area and throughout France. We can’t wait to welcome the global disc community to our beautiful Atlantic beaches!”
BULA is WFDF’s Official Beach Ultimate and Beach Lifestyle Partner and the primary role of BULA is to act as an independent event management and promotion consultant offering its services to the Event Tournament Organizing Committees in order to support a successful event. “I am really excited about the 2017 World Championships” said Patrick van der Valk, BULA President and WFDF Beach Ultimate Chair. “The seaside town of Royan will experience first-hand how top sports and friendships can go hand-in-hand. Teams with families and individuals from across the globe will gather, compete hard, and happily shake hands after each game and socialize with each other.”
The championship in Royan will be the fifth edition of the WCBU with the most recent beach championship hosted in Dubai, UAE in 2015, which consisted of over 1,100 athletes from 71 teams representing 24 nations. The first WCBU was held in 2004 in Portugal, followed by Brazil (2007) and Italy (2011).
