WFDF seeks interest from juniors (Under 18) to participate in the UTS World Virtual Youth Festival 2021

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is proud to announce that we have been invited to participate in the United Through Sports (UTS) World Virtual Youth Festival (WVYF) 2021. This event is a unique opportunity for Flying Disc athletes in the juniors divisions to be involved in a United through Sport movement that promotes health and safety through the competition of an online festival. WFDF is seeking interest from juniors (under 18 years of age) who wish to participate. The deadline for registration with WFDF is the 28th of October.

The Festival will be hosted on a digital platform, and youth participants will need a video recording device (such as a mobile phone/camera) and access to the internet to participate during the finals on the 22-25 November 2021. Participants will need to upload their videos to participate.  The festival will be hosted from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on United Nations World Children’s Day, 20 November.

The festival is officially under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee, the Paralympic Committee, the Special Olympics, and AIMS standing in solidarity under the Olympic, Paralympic, and Special Olympics values. This event is the only world virtual youth festival, which invites youth under the age of 18 to celebrate the youth of all abilities and take part in physical activity, fun, friendly competition, and access to education.

“WFDF is excited to invite young athletes from our Flying Disc Community to participate in this virtual festival of sporting youth from around the globe,” stated WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch. “During these difficult and challenging times where there has been restricted ability for athletes to compete on the world stage, this provides a platform for everyone to affirm that ‘We Stand United Through Sports.’ The UTS World Virtual Youth Festival, in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, provides an opportunity for youth from all over the world to engage in friendly sport for all.”

UTS is hosting five competition categories (Max Fit, Aero Fit, Talent, Inclusive Challenge, and Unified Fitness Challenge) and we invite interested young athletes to enter either Max Fit, Aero Fit, or Talent through WFDF. For further information please visit the UTS website: unitedthroughsports.com.

Maxfit competition focuses on Strength, Power, and Stamina using standardized exercises. There are 4 stages: Preliminary, Quarterfinal, Semi-final, and Final, and each has 3 rounds. Contestants will be scored by judges on the number of repetitions they complete, as well as their quality and control whilst performing the repetitions.

Aero Fit is a dynamic competition category that allows a team of 2 competitors to join their abilities and create a routine choreography of up to 3 minutes in length. Freestyle pairs work well here.

Talent allows any age-qualifying youth to join this competition and show their talents, again in a video of up to 3 minutes in length.

All participants of the festival are able to receive a digital certificate Medals will be awarded per age category and gender combination. The UTS World Virtual Youth Festival is open to young people of different physical abilities, ranging in categories for age groups U10, U12, U14, U16, U18. Participants’ age divisions are calculated as the age they are on the 1st of August 2021, with “U18” meaning they must be 17 or younger as of that date.

WFDF kindly urges anyone interested in participating to complete the Expression of Interest form (https://tinyurl.com/2ae4eejr) and reach out via email to the WFDF Events Team ([email protected]) with UTS as the email subject heading, prior to Wednesday 28th October so that WFDF can register you. WFDF will send out more details directly to those who register for the festival and will include tips and a technical manual with specific instructions on how to produce the videos and how to take part in the festival on November 20-27.
