WFDF Announces 2023 Events Schedule

In News, Press Release * Official Communication by WFDF

Full cycle of events planned for the upcoming year

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) Board of Directors is pleased to announce that a full calendar of WFDF World and Continental Championship flying disc events has been scheduled to take place in 2023.

“With five successful championships over the last four months, and now a complete line-up of events for 2023, it’s great to be getting back our sense of competition normalcy. Aligning our events back into the planned four year cycle is critical for our sport development,” said WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch. “Event dates have been selected later in the 2023 calendar to give teams and member National Federations as much planning time as possible and we are very hopeful for another strong turnout at all our World and Continental Championship events in 2023. All WFDF members in good standing are invited and encouraged to participate.”

WU24

The World Under-24 Ultimate Championships (WU24) venue is still under negotiations with UK Ultimate – our experienced LOC from WU23 2015/ WUGC2016 – stepping in after some last minute issues that arose with another host. While information is provisional at this time, WU24 is planned to take place from 1-8 July 2023 in the United Kingdom. More information will be shared as soon as contracts are signed with the venue. All WFDF member NF’s are automatically entitled to one (1) bid per division; Under-24 Open, Under-24 Women’s and Under-24 Mixed divisions will be hosted for National Teams. The event is open to all players who are fourteen (14) years old or older and must not turn twenty-four (24) years old during the calendar year of 2023. WU24 Pre-registrations close 15th November – apply for bids here.

AOUGC

The Asia-Oceanic Ultimate and Guts Championships (AOUGC) will be returning to Manila in the Philippines, hosted by the Philippine Flying Disc Association, our previous host to the 2017 continental event. AOUGC will take place from the 3rd – 7th October inclusive over 5 days at the Ayala Alabang Country Club, with anticipation that approximately 40 teams from the Asia-Oceanic region will be represented in the Ultimate divisions Open, Women’s, Mixed with possible masters divisions if enough interest is shown. Guts will also be hosted. AOUGC pre-registrations close 30th November – apply for bids here.

AAUC

AAUC will be held from 3-7 October 2023 in Kenya’s second largest city Kisumu. The Kisumu Ultimate Frisbee Club will host the event with the support of the All African Flying Disc Federation. With affordable accommodations and easy travel access for all sub-Saharan African teams, returning the event again to central Africa will hopefully enable countries such as Ethiopia, Tanzania and Uganda to attend with a possible first time attendance by new WFDF member Burundi. Club teams and or players are encouraged to reach out to your member National Federation to show your interest to form a team – National teams are also welcome. The AAUC will host mixed teams. AAUC pre-registrations close 15th December – apply for bids here.  All Africa’s continental championships were last held in South Africa in 2019 and hosted 9 teams from 4 countries.

WBUC

WFDF’s Beach Ultimate Championships (WBUC) will be held in 2023 after the 2021/2022 event was postponed and then canceled due to the impacts from the Pandemic on travel and safety. With the last event hosted in 2017 in Royan, FRA, where team bid requests were overwhelming, WFDF anticipates another large event next fall with players getting the opportunity to return to the sand after more than five years since the last world championships. The event will be held on Huntington Beach in Los Angeles, CA, USA over the 8 days from 28th October through Saturday 4th November. The event will offer at least 9 divisions for countries to indicate their interest to send a team. WBUC pre-registration ends 15th November – apply for bids here. The event bulletin will be shared with all member National Federations this week via email. Open, Women’s and Mixed divisions are possible contributors to points qualifications.

PAUC

Popular tourist beachside town – Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic – will be hosting the Pan American Ultimate Championships (PAUC) from the 28th November through Saturday 2nd December inclusive (5 days).  With 19 member countries from the Pan-Am region, it is hoped that many will attend the event which will adopt the same format schedule as PAUC 2019 which enabled teams more free time in the afternoons to explore the region. PAUC pre-registration ends 30th November – apply here.

DISC GOLF

The WFDF Disc Golf Committee is looking to host four (4) continental Championships for the All Africa, Asia-Oceanic, European and Pan-Am regions in 2023 for National Disc Golf Teams. Interest so far has been positive from countries wanting to participate and or host these events. If you are interested in sending a team, please be sure to fill out the Disc Golf online EOI form.  EOI’s for these events close on the 20th October. Please note that World Ranking Points will be awarded for WFDF Continental Disc Golf Events and will count towards qualification for the IWGA World Games (China 2025) if Disc Golf is represented at the event.

WFDF CONGRESS

WFDF plans to host the WFDF Annual Congress 2023 IN PERSON at the WU24  in July. More information will come out in Q1 2023.
