Spain Triumphs at 4×4 Beach Ultimate Showcase, Making History in Portugal

At the WFDF 4×4 Beach Ultimate Showcase in Praia da Rocha, Portimão, Spain secured a historic 13-11 victory over France, becoming the first team to win a WFDF 4×4 game under the smaller roster format. With determination, precision, and exceptional teamwork, Spain turned the tables after their 2023 loss to France at the WFDF World Beach Ultimate Championships (WBUC), marking a new chapter for the sport.

WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch reflected on the significance of this event, saying: “This 4×4 format demonstrates the functionality of smaller teams, where speed, strategy, and spirit come together seamlessly in a gender balanced format. It showcases how adaptable Beach Ultimate can be for our smaller disc communities, as well as looking ahead to future Olympic Movement possibilities.”

Players embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, quickly adapting to the dynamic gameplay and smaller rosters. Their excitement for the format reflected how it brings out the best in athleticism, teamwork, and the joy of playing together.

The event followed the BULA World Beach Ultimate Club Championships, where 118 teams from 30 countries competed the previous week. The smaller 4×4 format—played on a full-sized beach field—offered a thrilling conclusion to the week’s activities, with both teams showcasing a mix of athleticism, camaraderie, and respect in front of a packed stand.

Spectators on the beach and fans watching remotely on Olympic Channel, WFDF’s YouTube channel, and ulti.tv experienced firsthand how the sport embraces inclusion, teamwork, and joy. As players and fans celebrated under the sun, the event embodied what Beach Ultimate is all about: community, shared experiences, and the spirit of play.
