The Swedish Frisbee Sport Federation (SFF), one of the earliest national federations for disc sports and a proud WFDF Member Federation, will mark its 50th anniversary with a special reception on October 19, 2024, in Linköping, Sweden. The event will honor the federation’s long-standing contributions to the development of the sport, both nationally and globally.

Sweden has played a pivotal role in advancing disc sports, achieving key milestones over the past five decades:

• 1974: Formation of the Swedish Frisbee Association
• 1976: First Swedish Championship organized
• 1978: Europe’s first Frisbee golf course established in Kärsön
• 1983: Hosting the inaugural World Ultimate and Guts Championships in Gothenburg
• 1983: Recognition by the Swedish National Sports Confederation
• 1985: Hosting the first WFDF Congress in Helsingborg

Looking ahead, Sweden’s contributions continue as they prepare to host the WFDF 2025 World Overall Flying Disc Championships in Ängelholm from August 10–15, 2025.

The 50th-anniversary reception will feature a banquet and merit badge awards, with recipients receiving travel, accommodation, and banquet expenses covered by the SFF. Other attendees are welcome to join at their own expense.

WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch reflected on the occasion, saying: “Sweden’s contributions to disc sports over the years have been remarkable. From organizing the first world championships to fostering a vibrant community, their legacy has been essential in shaping the sport’s evolution. We look forward to their continued influence as they host the 2025 event.”
