The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is hosting a Beach Ultimate 4s showcase game in Portugal this weekend, Saturday the 19th of October at 17:00 Portugal time. In a friendly rematch between the finalists of the WFDF 2023 World Beach Ultimate Championships (WBUC) last November in Huntington Beach, California, France and Spain are expected to provide an epic showdown with mixed gender teams.
The match will directly follow the conclusion of the BULA World Beach Ultimate Club Championships, which were held all this previous week with 118 teams from 30 countries competing on the beautiful beaches in Praia da Rocha in Portimão, Portugal.
The purpose of the game is to showcase the flexibility of smaller rosters as the game will feature a 4-on-4 format on a regular sized beach ultimate field, a format and field designed for potential Olympic Movement event participation consideration as well as for play in smaller disc communities.
The WFDF 2023 WBUC match was packed with high-intensity action, with France pulling off a thrilling 12-9 victory to claim the gold medal. Relive every moment of that unforgettable match here. Can France defend their crown, or will Spain reclaim the spotlight? There’s only one way to find out—tune in live on WFDF’s YouTube channel or Olympic-channel TV with coverage starting just before 17:00 local time (GMT) and experience the excitement firsthand.
For those lucky enough to be in Portimão, admission is free, and fans can enjoy exclusive giveaways from WFDF’s partners. With top athletes from both countries ready to bring their A-game, this showcase will be a celebration of everything Beach Ultimate has to offer.
“We are hosting this to showcase the 4×4 format for Beach Ultimate, developed for potential Olympic Movement event participation where athlete quota size is a key constraint.” said WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch. “For example, Brisbane 2023 is an awesome setting for a Beach competition. France and Spain’s last encounter was a reminder of how intense and unpredictable this sport can be. This 4×4 rematch promises even more adrenaline as both teams test their skills in this more compact format.”
Don’t miss out—join the excitement, follow the live broadcast, and stay connected through WFDF’s social media at @worldflyingdisc for real-time updates.
