The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) recently concluded a series of highly successful workshops aimed at expanding the presence of Flying Disc sports among physical education teachers across Lithuania. Held from 3rd to the 6th of February, the workshops took place in Kaunas, Klaipėda and Vilnius, drawing enthusiastic participation from over 100 teachers. The workshops were led by José Amoroso, Chair of the World Flying Disc Federation’s School, University and Youth Commission.
The “Introducing Flying Disc Sports at Schools” workshop provided teachers with essential skills, teaching methods, and activities to integrate the different Flying Disc sports into their curricula. Attendees received training on various Flying Disc disciplines, including Disc Golf, Ultimate, Freestyle, Guts, and Overall, fostering a more inclusive approach to physical education.
“We are thrilled with the outcome of these workshops. Empowering physical education teachers with the knowledge of Flying Disc sports will inspire a new generation of athletes and promote inclusivity in our schools,” said Robert ‘Nob’ Rauch, President of the World Flying Disc Federation.
“The success of this initiative reflects our commitment to enriching the sporting culture in Lithuania. We are excited to see how these teachers will implement Flying Disc sports in their classes,” added Ricardas Zareckis, President of the Lithuanian Flying Disc Federation.
Lithuania will host the WFDF 2025 Wheelchair Ultimate World Championships in September 2025, further solidifying its commitment to growing Flying Disc sports across diverse communities, with the city of Druskininkai serving as the venue for the second edition of this event.
“The days were intense and filled with meaningful exchanges which were quite rewarding. We connected deeply with the dedicated physical education teachers who graciously participated in our program. Overall, I am immensely grateful for this opportunity and the enriching experience it provided. We need more leaders like Ričardas who recognize the significance of these events in advancing ultimate and disc sports within schools. Our goal remains clear: to provide all students with access to discs!” added Amoroso.
Educators and Flying Disc enthusiasts can access the “Introducing Flying Disc Sports at Schools” eBook and other educational materials on the WFDF Sport Development webpage. to continue learning and implementing these sports in their communities.
Reflections on the Workshop’s Impact by Selected Educators
Bronius Kazlovskis: “Such seminars are extremely useful for physical education teachers, as they provide new knowledge and practical tools on how to introduce frisbee into lessons in an interesting and fun way. This sport promotes teamwork, honesty and physical activity, making it a great alternative to traditional activities. The advice received makes it easier to adapt to students of different ages, develop their social skills and motivate them to be active. In addition, the seminars provide an opportunity to share experiences with colleagues and find new ways to diversify physical education lessons.”
Saulius Lukonas: “Such practical, methodological seminars, where you receive methodological material for your direct work from the author himself, inspire further work and development in working with the younger generation, which is becoming increasingly difficult to interest in these technological times, and such new things can be the beginning of a new movement. Therefore, we as teachers look at this very positively and are eager to gain knowledge.”
Mantas Brazionis: “The seminar was extremely useful and inspiring – the specialist from Portugal not only presented in detail the techniques and tactics of frisbee, but also emphasized the values of this sport, such as teamwork, respect and honesty. Practical tasks helped to better understand the subtleties of the game, and the activity and enthusiasm of the participants show that such training is very necessary. I am glad to be able to participate and I have no doubt that I will enrich the sports experience of the students with the knowledge I have acquired.”
