The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that the Turkmenistan Flying Disc Public Union (TFDPU) has been approved by Congress as WFDF’s 114th National Federation member. Established in 2009, the TFDPU has worked diligently to promote and organize Flying Disc sports in Turkmenistan. With a majority of players spread across four clubs established in the capital Ashgabat, the TFDPU organizes regular training sessions and national tournaments to grow the sport locally.
Flying Disc sports were first introduced to Turkmenistan in 1997, and since then the community has steadily expanded. The TFDPU has maintained its commitment to inclusivity, open participation, and the spirit of the game, with efforts underway to achieve full governmental recognition as an official sports federation.
“We are thrilled to welcome Turkmenistan to the WFDF family,” stated WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch. “Their dedication to fostering Flying Disc sports despite limited resources reflects the true spirit of our global community. We look forward to supporting their continued development and seeing them participate in WFDF-sanctioned events in the near future.”
Sahyt Tachev, Event Organizer and International Relations Coordinator for the TFDPU, expressed excitement about this milestone: “Joining WFDF is a huge honor for our federation and players. This recognition gives us the opportunity to develop Flying Disc sports at a more professional level in Turkmenistan, to learn from international best practices, and to build a stronger future for our community.”
TFDPU has already engaged internationally, with players participating in tournaments such as the MENA Ultimate Club Championship and various regional events. With WFDF membership, the federation aims to further expand opportunities for Turkmen players to compete globally and access coaching and development programs. It also seeks to introduce new flying disc disciplines to the community.
WFDF looks forward to seeing the growth of Flying Disc sports in Turkmenistan and supporting the TFDPU’s efforts in building a vibrant and sustainable Flying Disc community.
