The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is proud to announce its support for the impactful “Disc for Change” project in Egypt through its Development Program. The initiative, led by Alhalimun and IOC Young Leader Sara Moamen Abdelsamie, utilizes Flying Disc sports to foster development and inclusion among marginalized children, particularly those from refugee backgrounds.
The “Disc for Change” workshop successfully completed its first local Train of Trainers workshop in Cairo, Egypt, from May 1st to 3rd, 2025. Over twenty dedicated individuals participated in the workshop, gaining essential knowledge in sport for development principles, child protection, safeguarding and mental health. The workshop equipped them to effectively use Flying Disc sports to promote the integration of refugee children within their host communities.
The workshop culminated in a vibrant festival, “Dream Beyond Borders: Together We Rise,” organized by the newly trained leaders. The event engaged over fifty Sudanese refugee children, aged 8 to 12, in fun and engaging Flying Disc activities.
Sara Moamen Abdelsamie, the founder of Alhalimun, expressed her enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “It’s truly inspiring to partner with major organizations like WFDF to work towards improving lives, especially when it aligns with our core mission of promoting integration, inclusion, and social cohesion for refugees in Egypt.” She also shared her pride in the impact of their recent workshop, noting, “Training 23 new leaders who will serve their communities with the skills gained from the workshop is immensely meaningful. Their stories are a powerful reminder of the positive change we can achieve together. Ultimately, our collective efforts are paving the way for a better, more inclusive world for everyone.”
Robert “Nob” Rauch, WFDF President, stated, “We are thrilled to have supported Alhalimun and Sara Moamen Abdelsamie in this important project. ‘Disc for Change’ perfectly aligns with our mission to promote the growth and development of all Flying Disc sports, and showcases the unique ability of our sport to foster community and empower individuals from all backgrounds.”
This project highlights WFDF’s commitment to leveraging the sports for positive social impact beyond traditional competitions. By collaborating with organizations like Alhalimun, supported by the IOC Young Leaders Program and Olympism 365, it demonstrates the power of Flying Disc sports to promote well-being, build bridges, and create opportunities for diverse participants.
This successful collaboration highlights WFDF’s active role in contributing to the broader Olympic movement’s goals of using sport for good and reaching communities in meaningful ways.
WFDF’s Development Program was launched in 2014 and has since impacted thousands of participants in communities and countries around the world.
