2025 World Wheelchair Ultimate Championship: Preview, Schedule, and How to Watch

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) will host the second edition of the WFDF World Wheelchair Ultimate Championships from 18 to 21 September in Druskininkai, Lithuania. This Championship marks a major step in the continued development of para flying disc sports and its pathway to greater inclusion. The six teams competing are Germany (2023 bronze medalists), India, Italy (2023 Champion), Japan, Lithuania, and Team World (featuring players from countries not sending a national team). All games will be streamed live on WFDF’s YouTube Channel.

“It is exciting to be building opportunities for athletes with disability to participate in Flying Disc sports, and we plan to use this Championship to further refine our classification system and the way we approach the discipline,” said Robert “Nob” Rauch, WFDF President. “WFDF has been recognized by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) since 2015 and has a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation with World Abilitysport (formerly IWAS).  We are excited to showcase the skill and athleticism of our para-athletes on a global stage and look to further develop Wheelchair Ultimate and potentially introduce Para Disc Golf in the future.”

“We are honored and excited to welcome teams, athletes and spectators to the Championship,” said Ričardas Zareckis, President of the Lithuanian Flying Disc Federation and Chairperson of the Local Organizing Committee. “Our experienced team is fully committed to delivering a world-class Championship that celebrates excellence and showcases the athletes, Spirit of the Game and the development of the discipline.”

The schedule for the four-day Championship is as follows:

  • Thursday, September 18: Opening Ceremony and Pool Play
  • Friday, September 19: Pool Play
  • Saturday, September 20: Pool Play and Quarter Finals
  • Sunday, September 21: Semi-Finals/Medal/Placement Games, Closing Ceremony

“I am extremely excited and grateful to return to the field where Flying Disc takes center stage,” said Sergio Alejandro “Cheko” Ramírez Zapata, a player from Mexico on Team World. “This Championship is a chance to compete internationally, play with spirit, and connect with other players who use a wheelchair while still belonging to this beautiful community. For me, it’s the fulfillment of a dream in my Ultimate journey of more than 20 years.”

Druskininkai, located 130 km from the Lithuanian capital Vilnius, will host the Championship at the Lithuanian Sport Centre, in collaboration with the Lithuanian Flying Disc Federation, the National Paralympic Committee of Lithuania, and the local municipality, who will be present in supporting the delivery of the Championship.
