The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is excited to announce reaching a Memorandum of Understanding with the global non-profit movement, ICOACHKIDS, aimed at supporting the development of children and youth coaches around the world. Led by Leeds Beckett University and the International Council for Coaching Excellence, ICOACHKIDS provides innovative learning and development opportunities for those coaching children and youth.
The Memorandum of Understanding enables WFDF to integrate high-quality, research-based educational content from ICOACHKIDS directly into the WFDF Academy, the federation’s online learning platform. This content will provide coaches, teachers, and volunteers around the world with essential knowledge to create positive, safe, and equitable environments for young athletes in all Flying Disc sports, including Ultimate, Beach Ultimate, Disc Golf, Freestyle, Guts, and Overall.
“This partnership is a great step in advancing our Strategic Plan and proactively supporting our member federations, especially in youth development,” said WFDF President, Robert “’Nob” Rauch. “The high-quality ICOACHKIDS content gives our coaches well-researched, high-quality resources to grow our sport and ensure positive experiences for kids in all Flying Disc disciplines, and broadens the offerings we have on our growing WFDF Academy platform.”
Integrating the ICOACHKIDS content supports WFDF’s goal of making globally recognized, high-quality education accessible to its worldwide community. The WFDF Academy is designed to be accessible on smartphones, tablets, and computers, with or without an internet connection, ensuring a wide reach. The WFDF Academy is available here.
The content available on the WFDF Academy will include:
- The ICOACHKIDS Essentials and the role of the children’s coach
- Creating a positive learning environment and maximizing engagement in sport
- Making sport safe and inclusive
- How children’s rights apply to sport
- Understanding youth sport participation and dropout
- Developing your coaching philosophy and team vision
- Motor development and the talent development process
Dr. Gary Hodgson, ICOACHKIDS Secretary, stated, “We are excited to partner with WFDF to bring our ‘Kids First’ coaching philosophy to the global Flying Disc community. WFDF’s dedication to making their Academy content accessible and high-quality means coaches worldwide can learn how to create safe, fun, and inclusive environments, keeping children in sport for life.”
The content will be launched on WFDF Academy over the coming months. More information on ICOACHKIDS can be found here.
