On the second day of gold-medal rounds, teams from the United States and Germany secured top honors, adding to the momentum created during Friday’s Masters finals. Germany celebrated a major victory by claiming the Mixed Division title against Australia, while the United States continued its impressive run by capturing gold in the Master Mixed against Spain, Women’s against The Netherlands, and Open against Belgium. It is worth highlighting that this is the second WBUC in a row that Team USA did not make it into the mixed division finals (France won in 2023 after knocking them off in the semifinals), although the USA Open team has now added a fifth consecutive WBUC gold medal to its record.
“It was an awesome week of highly competitive and spirited play on the beautiful beach in Portimão,” stated WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch. “We congratulate the teams that won competition medals – USA, Canada, Germany, Australia, Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Netherlands, and Spain – across the various divisions. And of course we honor the Spirit Award winners: Australia, Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, and Turkey. We want to thank Tournament Director Pedro Vargas and his entire staff and volunteers for hosting a memorable event.”
Athletes across divisions praised the level of play, the event atmosphere, and the Spirit of the Game shown throughout the championship. Despite challenging weather earlier in the week, the Local Organising Committee and WFDF operations team delivered a smoothly run and highly competitive event that brought together athletes, volunteers, officials, and supporters from around the world.

The Beach Ultimate 4s Showcase Game, featuring Mediterranean regional powerhouses France and Italy, proved to be an absolute success, with Italy coming from behind in the second half to best their rivals in the friendly match. The game drew significant attention from athletes and general spectators alike, filling the stands and creating a vibrant atmosphere around the field. Following the exhibition matchup, players highlighted how the reduced six-second stall count and the two-point endzone-to-endzone scores contributed to a fast, high-intensity style of play. They noted that these rules generate intense points and allow score differentials to close rapidly within just a few plays, making the format thrilling for both competitors and fans.
The 2025 edition of WBUC marked the return of the event to Portugal, 21 years after the first World Beach Ultimate Championships were held in the country. Praia da Rocha once again proved to be a world-class venue for Beach Ultimate, delivering an unforgettable environment for both players and fans. Athletes from numerous countries expressed that Praia da Rocha ranks among the best venues they have played at, citing both the superb beach environment and the lively, amenity-rich promenade just steps away.
WFDF extends its deepest appreciation to APUDD, the Clube de Praticantes Ultimate Portimão Local Organising Committee (LOC), the Municipality of Portimão, tournament partners, the Ultiworld broadcast crews, volunteers, and all athletes for contributing to a successful and spirited championship.
