The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is excited to announce the launch of “WFDF Academy,” a comprehensive learning platform designed to equitably support the global Flying Disc community. Following a successful pilot phase that reached users in 92 countries, this platform is now ready to empower athletes, coaches, teachers, and other leaders worldwide.
This platform is a key part of the WFDF Strategic Plan, aiming to build capacity and expertise across all roles, disciplines, and levels of the sport. It provides many learning opportunities, from self-study mini-courses to facilitated online training on both disc sports and important non-technical topics, creating a worldwide culture of continuous learning and collaboration.
“With the ongoing growth of membership and participation in Flying Disc sports, it is vital for the community to have access to the opportunity to learn and develop,” said Robert “Nob” Rauch, WFDF President. “WFDF Academy provides exactly that, creating accessible opportunities for education, empowering the worldwide community to reach their full potential. Kudos go to our member services director Dillon Richardson for developing the project and collecting these important educational materials.”
Mini-Courses (self-study microlearning courses) available at launch include:
- Introduction to WFDF
- Safeguarding Essentials
- Preventing Competition Manipulation
- Organizing Gender-Equitable Tournaments
WFDF Academy also features the Introduction to the Disc Discipline series of Mini-Courses, which provide the basics of the rules, history, and key skills of each major Flying Disc discipline:
- Introduction to Disc Golf
- Introduction to Freestyle
- Introduction to Guts
- Introduction to Overall
- Introduction to Ultimate
There are also links to a variety of other resources for National Federations, anti-doping education, DEI, and the Flying Disc Academic Research Hub.
“Whether you are a teacher in Cabo Verde, a youth coach in Mexico, a national team coach in the Thailand, just discovering the sport in Fiji, or organizing pick-up games in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, WFDF Academy provides the chance to learn and earn official badges and certificates,” said Dillon Richardson, WFDF Director of Membership Services and Sport Development. “WFDF Academy is removing barriers to education—you can be riding the bus on the way to work or between games at a tournament and access courses and resources right from your phone, ensuring all stakeholders are empowered and have opportunities no matter their location.”
WFDF Academy is accessible globally, allowing users to create an account at no cost and engage with content at their own pace and convenience. This initiative underscores WFDF’s dedication to promoting the sport and supporting its development at all levels.
