North American Teams Prevail in First Day of Gold Medal Rounds at WFDF 2025 World Beach Ultimate Championships

The first day of Gold Medal Rounds at the WFDF 2025 World Beach Ultimate Championships (WBUC) concluded on Friday, 21 November. Held at Praia da Rocha in Portimão, Portugal, the first slate of finals showcased closely contested matchups across the Master’s divisions, with the USA and Canada sweeping every gold medal awarded on Friday.

With 2,500 participants on 136 teams from 38 countries competing across 10 divisions, WBUC 2025 continues today with gold medal matches in the remaining categories – Master Mixed (ESP-USA), Mixed (AUS-GER), Women’ s (NED-USA), and Open (BEL-USA) – along with the Beach Ultimate 4s Showcase Game at noon local time. The showcase game featuring Mediterranean regional powerhouses France and Italy is available for free on Ultiworld’s youtube channel.

The United States claimed titles in Master Open, Grand Master Mixed, Grand Master Open, and the inaugural Grand Master Women’s division, marking the first time this division was held in WBUC history. Canada added victories in the Master Women’s and the Great Grand Master Open divisions, completing a dominant first day for these teams.

Reflecting on their win, athletes from the USA Grand Master Open team praised both the competition and the Spirit of the Game displayed, “The competition was awesome, every team brought their hardest. Fantastic ultimate, no bad calls, and the Spirit was top-notch. We only have positive things to say; we had a great time.”

Athletes from Canada’s Great Grand Master Open team also shared their appreciation for the event’s organisation, “The tournament has been organised very well. The LOC and WFDF have done a great job. Despite the weather challenges in the first days, everything recovered smoothly and felt very well managed. It was a pleasure to be part of this.”
