The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) today announced a new collaboration with PickupUltimate.com, the leading online platform for organizing and finding Ultimate pickup games. This collaboration is designed to efficiently support WFDF’s over 122 National Federations by providing a simple, accessible tool to foster growth and participation at the local, community level worldwide.
PickupUltimate.com offers a free, centralized service where players can easily find, join, or organize casual games in their area. The PickupUltimate platform currently hosts over 600 games each month, connecting an estimated 9,000 players in 60 countries. This collaboration directly supports WFDF’s Strategic Plan goals of increasing engagement and promoting the inclusive development of Ultimate.
“This collaboration with PickupUltimate.com is a simple, yet powerful, tool for our National Federations and their Ultimate communities,” said Robert “Nob” Rauch, WFDF President. “It directly supports our strategic goal of providing resources that help our members efficiently manage and grow local playing opportunities for both current and new players. Making it easier for someone to find their first game is a huge win for grassroots development.”
Chris Oakman, PickupUltimate.com Founder added, “We are incredibly excited to work with the World Flying Disc Federation to help connect more players around the world. Our platform is built on the idea that finding a game should be easy, and this partnership will help thousands of new and existing players discover the joy of Ultimate in their local communities and grow the global participation rate. “
“Since launching the website in 2009, millions of users have used PickupUltimate.com to find games in their local area and when they travel. I regularly hear from local organizers who tell me that they get new players to their game from the site, and stories of people who travel and find a game to play in. Often people will travel to a foreign country and connect with the local Ultimate community there for a game, forging international connections through Ultimate,” added Oakman. “When I initially created PickupUltimate.com, I wanted to make it easier to find games when traveling to different cities. Now more than 15 years later, I could not have imagined the international impact that the website has had. It is a great privilege to be able to provide this resource to the Ultimate community for so many years.”
Growing Local Communities
In growing communities like Saudi Arabia, PickupUltimate.com is supporting new local players as well as international visitors: “We’ve only been listed on the site for about three months and have already had several people join our session from the listing. Even with that, it’s been great to see how the platform can connect players who are visiting or new to the area, it really helps make the sport more accessible and easier to find,” said Saleh Alsuwailem, who organizes games each Monday and Saturday from 9:00 to 10:30 PM in Riyadh, the capital of the country.
“We believe the website will be a big benefit for us in the long run, especially as Ultimate continues to grow in Saudi Arabia. Having our games listed on an international platform gives us visibility among travelers, expats, and locals searching for where to play. It’s also a great way to show that there’s an active community here, which can attract more players and help the sport develop further.”
Grow Your Local Community Today
WFDF encourages all National Federations, local organizers and clubs to check out this free resource. If you host an Ultimate game, whether it’s a weekly casual or a regular, non-competitive social game, consider adding it to PickupUltimate.com so it’s visible to the local and international players searching, especially those looking to start playing!
