The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that flying disc sports will be featured as a demonstration sport in the 33rd Edition of the Southeast Asian Games. Ultimate will be played 16-17 December and disc golf will be played 17-18 December, with NOC supported teams from Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
The Southeast Asian Games, commonly known as SEA Games, is a biennial multi-sport event involving participants from the current 11 countries of Southeast Asia. The games are under the regulation of the Southeast Asian Games Federation with supervision by the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Council of Asia. In this year’s edition, there are 574 events over 38 medal sports, involving over 9,300 athletes from 10 countries. The SEA Games were first held in 1959 and the next edition will be staged in Malaysia in September 2017.
From Bangkok, WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch stated “we are excited to see both ultimate and disc golf in the Southeast Asian Games, representing the first time that flying disc sports will be participating in a full Olympic Movement multi-sports event. I am thrilled for the athletes and are confident we can build on the momentum and excitement generated from this event across the region. We also look forward to participating in our second regional Olympic event next year with the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy. Many thanks to Asst. Prof. Dr. Issadee Kutinatara, President of the Flying Disc Association of Thailand, who is serving as the Competition Manager for the Flying Disc competitions, and the entire team.”
Games and matches over the next three days will be live-streamed over WFDF’s youtube.com channel.
