The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) delivered a key testimonial at the INTERACT+ webinar “A Sport for All Future” on November 27th, sharing its journey of becoming the first-ever organization to achieve the Diamond Level Sport for All Certification back in June. Dillon Richardson, WFDF Director of Membership Services and Sport Development, presented the case study to encourage other International Federations and National Federations (NFs) to increase their focus and investment in Sport for All. The testimonial focused on how a strategic commitment to Sport for All provided WFDF with the structure needed to efficiently support its 122 National Federations across target groups.
“The certification was a vital self-reflection process that formalized our commitment to development. It allowed our federation to move beyond policy and create the tangible action needed to deliver on our Strategic Plan as it provided a sort of blueprint for tangible programs,” stated President Robert “Nob” Rauch. “Our experience is a clear message: investing strategically in Sport for All is an efficient and effective way to fulfill WFDF’s global mission of growth and development and create collective impact with our National Federations.”
This commitment resulted in the immediate creation of a dedicated Sport for All Commission in July as part of Bylaws amendments and the adoption of a formal Sport for All Strategy and Action Plan, ensuring the promotion of broad-based, inclusive participation in sport, regardless of age, gender, ability, or background, and emphasizing access to physical activity as a fundamental right and social good through the sport’s various disciplines.
The testimonial emphasized the success of the INTERACT+ Capacity Building Course, delivered in January 2025, which directly strengthened National Federation relationships and spurred action. The course saw engagement from over 50 participants representing 35 National Federations, including those not typically participating in high-performance events, and facilitated national-level strategic planning and collaborations.
The testimonial also showcased how the focus on Sport for All is creating meaningful action, as the INTERACT+ project’s core goal, such as:
- Delivering the Girls Positive and Safe Coaching Course with TAFISA, engaging over 65 National Federations.
- Supporting development projects for specific target groups, including for refugees in Egypt, prisoners in South Africa and the indigenous community in Canada.
- Creating WFDF Academy to offer educational opportunities to stakeholders and disseminate resources.
Richardson concluded the testimonial by highlighting how the investment in Sport for All created specific returns such as the development of new collaborations, increased recognition and visibility in the wider sports movement, improved awareness and focus among National Federations, and direct support and increased participation in target groups, including persons with disabilities, refugees and women.
WFDF’s participation in the webinar was a success and thanks to all who attended and contributed to this important dialogue. The TAFISA press release can be found on the INTERACT+ website and the recording is available on TAFISA’s YouTube Channel.
