Three days of competition are complete at the WFDF 2026 World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC) in Logroño, Spain, and the race for the world titles is beginning to take shape. Monday marked the conclusion of Open Division pool play, while the Women’s and Mixed divisions continued to deliver closely contested battles as teams fought for position ahead of the championship’s decisive stages.

Women’s Division: Leaders Hold Firm

The Women’s Division continues to produce high-quality competition, with all four pool leaders maintaining unbeaten records. Italy (1) and defending champions France (3) remain undefeated at the top of Pool A. France survived one of the tournament’s closest contests, edging Czechia (7) 13–12, while Italy strengthened their position by defeating both Colombia (9) and New Zealand (5).

In Pool B, USA (2) and Canada (4) also stayed perfect. USA recorded victories over Singapore (10) and Japan (6), while Canada defeated Belgium (8) in one of the day’s featured matchups.

Elsewhere, Belgium responded with a convincing victory over Sweden (14), Great Britain (12) bounced back with wins over Colombia (9) and Spain (13), and Germany (11) earned two dramatic one-point victories over Sweden (14) and Singapore (10).

Mixed Division: Picture Remains Wide Open

Defending champions USA (1) maintained their unbeaten record with a convincing 13–7 victory over France (5) in the featured showcase game, joining Hungary (3) and Canada (2) as the only remaining undefeated teams.

Behind the leaders, Switzerland (7), France (5), and Singapore (4) remain firmly in contention despite tightly contested pool battles. Switzerland strengthened its position with a comfortable win over Hong Kong China (13), while Australia (8) kept pace in Pool B after defeating Mexico (9) 11–9.

One of the day’s closest finishes saw China (10) edge Austria (12) 13–12 in a thrilling universe-point.

Open Division: Power Pools Are Set

Pool play concluded in the Open Division, with four nations advancing to the Power Pools unbeaten. Top seeds USA (1) completed a perfect Pool A campaign, while seventh-seeded Belgium (7) produced the day’s biggest result by defeating second-seeded Italy (2) 12–11 in one of the tournament’s most exciting contests. The victory secured Belgium first place in Pool B and capped an outstanding unbeaten run.

Canada (3) and France (6) also advanced with perfect records after convincing performances throughout the day. France continued their impressive defensive form, allowing just two goals across victories over Spain (19) and Ireland (16).

Behind the pool winners, Japan (5) recovered from their opening-day loss to USA by securing second place in Pool A, while New Zealand (8) defeated Sweden (13) to finish strongly. Great Britain (12) also closed pool play with a victory over South Africa (17).

Attention now turns to the Power Pools, where unbeaten teams immediately face one another as the battle for quarterfinal qualification begins.

Looking Ahead

Tuesday marks the start of the Open Division Power Pools, with Belgium facing France and USA taking on Canada in two of the day’s headline matchups.

In the Women’s Division, Canada meets Japan, and New Zealand faces Czechia, while the Mixed Division features key contests including Canada vs Australia, Hungary vs Colombia, and France vs Switzerland as teams continue their push toward the knockout rounds.
