First Medals Awarded Ahead of Finals Day at 2026 WJUC

The first medals of the WFDF 2026 World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC) have been awarded as the tournament heads into its final day in Logroño, Spain. Bronze medal winners were decided on Friday, while the Open, Women’s, and Mixed World Champions will be crowned on Saturday.
After seven days of competition featuring 47 national teams from 26 countries, just six teams remain in contention for the three world titles. One storyline stands above the rest: Canada has reached all three championship finals, chasing an unprecedented clean sweep of Open, Women’s, and Mixed gold medals.
Women’s Division: Canada Ends Italy’s Perfect Run
The Women’s Division produced one of the championship’s biggest surprises as Canada (4) handed previously unbeaten Italy (1) their first loss, winning a thrilling semifinal 11-10.
France (3) joined them in the final after another one-point victory over Japan (6). In the bronze medal game, Japan defeated Italy 13-8 to secure third place.
Mixed Division: Unbeaten Teams Meet for Gold
The Mixed Division final will feature the tournament’s only remaining unbeaten teams.
USA (1) advanced with a 13-7 victory over France (5), while Canada (2) defeated Switzerland (7) 13-9 to reach the championship game. Switzerland earned the bronze medal after overcoming France 13-9.
Open Division: Championship Rematch Awaits
Canada (3) continued their unbeaten run with a commanding 13-5 semifinal victory over Japan (5), while the USA (1) defeated New Zealand (8) 13-8 to book their place in the final.
The gold medal game is a rematch of one of the tournament’s closest contests, with Canada having edged the USA by a single point during Power Pool play. Japan claimed the bronze medal after defeating New Zealand 13-9.
