Competition continued on Sunday at the WFDF 2026 World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC) in Logroño, Spain, as teams completed another full day of pool play across the Open, Women’s, and Mixed divisions, with the knockout rounds drawing closer.

After the opening rounds, teams came together for the Parade of Nations and Opening Ceremony before the showcase Mixed Division game between hosts Spain and Mexico, officially celebrating the start of the championship and the international spirit of Flying Disc sports.

Women’s Division: Pool’s matchups intensify

The Women’s Division continued to produce highly competitive matches, particularly in Pool A, where every result is proving increasingly significant. New Zealand (5) maintained their unbeaten record with an 11–6 victory over Colombia (9), following their universe-point win against Great Britain on the opening day. Defending champions France (3) also maintained a 100% record after beating Great Britain 13–1.

In Pool B, Canada (4), USA (2), Japan (6), and Belgium (8) each collected important wins to remain firmly in contention as teams continue to battle for favorable positions ahead of the elimination rounds.

Mixed Division: Thrilling Contests Highlight Day Two

The Mixed Division delivered some of the tournament’s most exciting action. One of the day’s standout games saw Singapore (4) rally from an 8–6 deficit to beat Switzerland (7), scoring five consecutive points in a dramatic finish that keeps Pool A wide open heading into Day Three.

Another highly anticipated matchup featured Hungary (3) overcoming Australia (8) 11–7 after a tightly contested battle that remained close throughout much of the game before Hungary pulled away late.

Elsewhere, defending champions USA (1) continued their winning ways with victories over Hong Kong China (13) and China (10), while Canada (2), France (5), Colombia (6), Austria (12), and Spain (11) also secured important wins.

Open Division: Leading Contenders Continue Strong Starts

Several of the tournament favorites continued to establish themselves in the Open Division.

Defending champions USA (1) remained unbeaten after defeating Japan (5) 13–8 in one of the day’s marquee matchups. Although Japan challenged throughout the early stages, the Americans gradually pulled away to secure another important victory.

Italy (2), Belgium (7), France (6), and Czechia (9) also maintained perfect records through two days of competition, with France earning an impressive 10–5 victory over Germany (4) and Czechia defeating New Zealand (8) 12–10 before adding another win over Sweden (13).

Ireland (16) claimed one of the day’s closest results, edging hosts Spain (19) 12–11 in a thrilling Pool D contest.

Looking Ahead

Monday’s schedule promises another exciting day of competition as teams continue their pursuit of the 2026 World Junior Ultimate Championship titles.

Several key matchups are expected to shape the standings, including Italy vs Belgium in the Open Division, Germany vs Colombia later in the day, Canada vs Switzerland in the Women’s Division, and a highly anticipated USA vs JapanWomen’s matchup on the showcase field.
