Undefeated Runs End at 2026 World Junior Ultimate Championships

The race for the world titles tightened considerably on Tuesday at the WFDF 2026 World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC) in Logroño, Spain, as the Open Division Power Pools began and several of the tournament’s remaining unbeaten teams suffered their first defeats. Across all three divisions, the battle for quarterfinal positioning intensified ahead of the final day of group play.
Women’s Division: Pool B Blown Wide Open
The Women’s Division delivered its biggest surprises of the tournament so far.
Both Pool B leaders were defeated, with Belgium (8) upsetting USA (2) 11–9 and Japan (6) defeating Canada (4) 12–6, leaving four teams level at the top of the standings heading into the final day of pool play.
In Pool A, however, the leading contenders remained in control. Italy (1) and defending champions France (3) both extended their unbeaten records and are now set to meet in a decisive clash to determine first place in the pool.
Mixed Division: Leaders Hold Firm
The Mixed Division’s leading contenders continued to separate themselves from the chasing pack. Defending champions USA (1), Canada (2), and Hungary (3) each recorded two victories to remain unbeaten through four days of competition.
Canada defeated Australia (8) before closing the day with a convincing victory over Spain (11), while Hungary overcame both Colombia (6) and Mexico (9). USA continued their perfect campaign with wins over Switzerland (7) and Austria (12).
One of the day’s biggest results came from Switzerland (7), who defeated France (5) 11–8 to strengthen their position in the race for the knockout rounds.
Open Division: Only Canada and France Remain Perfect
The Open Division produced two thrilling clashes between unbeaten teams, with both contests decided by a single point.
Canada (3) handed defending champions USA (1) their first loss of the tournament, earning a dramatic 13–12 victory in one of the championship’s standout games. Moments earlier, France (6) edged Belgium (7) 13–12, ending Belgium’s perfect run and remaining unbeaten themselves.
The results leave Canada and France as the only undefeated teams in the Open Division heading into the final day of Power Pool play.
Elsewhere, Japan (5) strengthened its quarterfinal ambitions with an impressive 13–5 victory over Czechia (9), while Italy (2) responded to Monday’s narrow loss by defeating Germany (4) 13–11.
Looking Ahead
Wednesday marks the final day of group play before the knockout rounds begin. In the Open Division, unbeaten Canada and France will look to complete perfect Power Pool campaigns, with France facing Italy in one of the day’s headline matchups.
The Women’s Division features two blockbuster contests as Italy meet France to decide the top of Pool A, while USA face Canada in a crucial Pool B battle.
The Mixed Division also delivers a marquee showdown, with unbeaten Canada taking on Hungary to decide the top spot in Pool B.
