The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) announced the release of the updated WFDF Rules of Ultimate 2025-2028 Appendix. The revised document, formally approved by the Board of Directors following proposals by the Ultimate Committee and Ultimate Rules Subcommittee, is available on the WFDF Ultimate Rules microsite.

A Collaborative Consultation Process

The revision of the Appendix is the result of a review process designed to uphold the standards of the sport. Led by the WFDF Ultimate Rules Subcommittee, the process involved:

• Expert Review: Input from key global rules experts, including athletes and Spirit Directors.
• Committee Oversight: Refinement by the WFDF Ultimate Committee.
• Board Approval: Final ratification by the WFDF Board of Directors to ensure alignment with the federation’s wider strategic goals.

Rueben Berg, Chair of the WFDF Ultimate Rules Subcommittee, highlighted the importance of these updates: “Ensuring our rules promote fair, spirited, and smooth-running competition at the highest levels requires constant evaluation. This updated Appendix reflects our ongoing commitment to clarity, athlete safety, and responsiveness to the evolving needs of the global Ultimate community.”

The latest revision introduces a focused set of adjustments designed to streamline gameplay and provide clarifications. Key updates include:

• Pre-Pull Time Limit Violations (Defense): The procedure has been refined, now requiring the violation to be called before the offense touches the disc. Previous language requiring it to be called “prior to the pull” and stipulating that play must stop for mutual acknowledgment has been removed.
• Resident Non-Citizen Eligibility: Aligning with previously planned updates for 2026, the eligibility criteria have been streamlined by removing the strict requirement that players own a legal certificate of permanent residency issued by their country’s government.
• Hand Signals: Hand Signal 15 has been officially updated to denote a “Pulling Violation,” replacing the former terminology of “Offside/False Start.”
• Suspended or Cancelled Play: Minor administrative numbering corrections were implemented regarding the tie-breakers used to determine the results of suspended games.

The updated documents—including a clean version and a tracked changes version for transparency are updated on the WFDF Ultimate Rules microsite.

WFDF encourages all Member National Federations to share these updates with their local stakeholders, players, coaches and officials.

The updated Appendix is in effect for 2026 Events, including the upcoming World Ultimate Club Championships.
