The world’s best young Ultimate athletes are ready to take centre stage as the WFDF 2026 World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC) get underway in Logroño, Spain tomorrow (Saturday July 11 2026).

Over eight days of world-class competition, 47 national teams from all around the world will compete across the Mixed, Open and Women’s divisions, with athletes proudly representing their countries at the highest level of junior Ultimate. For many, #2026WJUC is the culmination of years of dedication and the opportunity to represent their country on the world stage for the first time. It is also the beginning of what promises to be exciting international careers in frisbee sports.

From reigning champions defending their crowns to emerging nations looking to make their mark, Logroño is set for a week celebrating outstanding athletic performances, international friendships and the Spirit of the Game.

Mixed Division: A Wide-Open Race Begins

Defending champions USA (1) return looking to retain the title they claimed in 2024, but the Mixed Division promises to be one of the deepest and most competitive fields of the championship. Canada (2), Hungary (3), Singapore (4), France (5), Colombia (6), Switzerland (7), Australia (8), Italy (9) and China (10) all arrive with ambitions of challenging for the world title, while every nation in the field will be looking to build momentum from the opening day.

Day 1 immediately presents several intriguing storylines. Switzerland (7) begin against China (10), and Singapore (4) face Hong Kong (13) and France (5) take on Austria (12),  as teams look to build early momentum. One of the day’s headline matchups sees Canada (2) meet Colombia (6) in the featured streamed game, offering an early indication of which nations are ready to challenge deep into the tournament.

With every pool featuring ambitious teams and closely matched contests, the opening rounds are expected to provide the first clues as to who will emerge as genuine championship contenders.

Open Division: Four Pools, One World Champion

Nineteen nations will contest the Open Division, where defending champions USA (1) begin another title defence against one of the strongest fields assembled at WJUC.

Italy (2), Canada (3), Germany (4), Japan (5), France (6), Belgium (7), New Zealand (8) and Czechia (9) headline a talented chasing pack, with every pool offering compelling contests from the opening pull.

Saturday’s opening fixtures provide plenty to watch. USA (1) begin against Singapore (11), while Japan (5) face Finland (15) in Pool A. Italy (2) open against South Africa (17), with Great Britain (12) taking on Israel (14) in Pool B. Pool C features one of the day’s standout contests as Canada (3) meet New Zealand (8), while Czechia (9) face Netherlands (18). In Pool D, Germany (4) take on hosts Spain (19), and Colombia (10)meet Ireland (16).

With strength throughout the field, every victory—and every point—could prove valuable as teams begin their journey towards the world title.

Women’s Division: Champions Return in a Growing Global Field

Top seeds Italy (1) are the team to beat in a Women’s Division that reflects the continued growth and strength of women’s Ultimate around the world.

USA (2), defending champions France (3), Canada (4), New Zealand (5), Japan (6), Czechia (7) and Belgium (8) all enter the championship with high expectations, while every nation will be aiming to build momentum from the very first games.

Competition begins primarily in Pool A, where Czechia (7) meet Colombia (9), France (3) face Spain (13), and New Zealand (5) take on Great Britain (12) in the opening round. Later in the day, top seeds Italy (1) begin their defence against Spain (13), while defending champions France (3) and New Zealand (5) each return to the field for their second matches. Pool B gets underway with Japan (6) taking on Germany (11) before the remainder of the pool joins the action on Sunday.

With only two pools, every result carries added significance as teams look to secure the strongest possible position before the knockout stages begin.
