Both disciplines will feature on the official sports program for The World Games 2029 in Karlsruhe, Germany, continuing the growing presence of Flying Disc Sports on the world’s multisport stage.
The World Games will take place from July 19–29, 2029, bringing together approximately 4,000 athletes from more than 100 countries across 36 sports and 62 disciplines. The announcement follows Disc Golf’s successful return to The World Games at Chengdu 2025, where it joined Ultimate as the two Flying Disc disciplines represented at the Games. Ultimate ranked second among all standalone sports in unique online viewers, while the combined viewership of Ultimate and Disc Golf placed Flying Disc first across the Games.

Continuing a Strong World Games Tradition
Flying Disc has a long history at The World Games. It was first featured in Karlsruhe as a demonstration sport in 1989, before Ultimate and Disc Golf were both included in the official programme at The World Games 2001 in Akita, Japan.
Disc Golf returned to The World Games in Chengdu in 2025 after a 24-year absence. The confirmation of both disciplines for Karlsruhe 2029 continues that progress and comes as WFDF’s Member National Federations now represent Flying Disc Sports in 127 countries.
Looking Ahead to Karlsruhe 2029
WFDF will now work with the International World Games Association (IWGA), the Karlsruhe 2029 Organising Committee and its Member National Federations to prepare for the Games and support the delivery of world-class competitions. The first Competition Managers Meeting will be held in Karlsruhe on 21–22 October.
The World Games provide an important opportunity to introduce Flying Disc Sports to new audiences, showcase the world’s leading athletes and demonstrate the qualities that make Ultimate and Disc Golf distinctive. WFDF looks forward to building on the momentum of Chengdu and making Karlsruhe 2029 another successful chapter in Flying Disc’s World Games history.
