Two dedicated athlete leaders bring global experience, professional expertise, and a commitment to community development to the World Flying Disc Federation.

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) announced Dustin Ciarla (HKG) and Chris Hartmann (CAN) as the newly elected representatives for the Disc Golf community on the Athletes’ Commission. This represents a great milestone in integrating diverse athlete perspectives to support the inclusive growth and development of all flying disc sports.

“The Athletes’ Commission plays an important role within the WFDF governance structure to keep the organization in touch with the perspectives of our athletes,” said Robert “Nob” Rauch, WFDF President. “Dustin and Chris both bring a deep dedication to giving back to the sport, helping us expand participation and strengthen our global community.”

Dustin Ciarla brings a wealth of entrepreneurial leadership and a dedication to growing disc sports across Asia, having served as a board member of the Flying Disc Federation of Hong Kong, China. Ciarla competed at the 2024 World Team Disc Golf Championships and has volunteered extensively to coach youth athletes and introduce new formats to develop the next generation of players.

“I am thrilled to join the Athletes’ Commission and help advocate for the thoughtful application of Spirit of the Game across all disciplines and the creation of developmental pathways for emerging flying disc communities,” said Ciarla.

Chris Hartmann, known for his work in university coaching and designing disc golf courses that expand local access and participation, will focus on representing the voices of athletes to strengthen disc golf internationally and continually refine the player event experience. Hartmann brings 13 years of competitive experience and a background in adult fitness and cardiac rehabilitation, highlighting the lifelong health and wellness benefits of disc sports.

“I’m passionate about growing disc golf across different demographics and into new communities.  Having this opportunity to contribute to the continued growth of our sport on a more global level is both an honour and an exciting step for me.” said Hartmann.

With the Elected Representatives of each Discipline in place, the Commission will determine a Chairperson as well as appoint additional members to represent the diversity of the community, considering the disciplines, playing divisions, geographical continent, age, level of playing experience and expertise, among other considerations.

The WFDF Athletes’ Commission was established in 2012 to create an avenue for athlete advice, feedback, and assistance on matters of relevance to all Flying Disc disciplines and athletes. The Commission provides regular reports and recommendations to the WFDF Board, promotes high standards of sportspersonship, and brings the athletes’ point of view to various Committees and Commissions.
