The collaborative event-based education in Vilnius empowered international disc golfers to protect fair play and the spirit of the sport.

At the recently concluded WFDF 2026 World Team Disc Golf Championship (WTDGC) in Vilnius, Lithuania, the World Flying Disc Federation collaborated with the local National Anti-Doping Organization, the Lithuanian Anti-Doping Agency (Lietuvos antidopingo agentūra) to deliver dynamic, event-based clean sport education. Spanning the competition held from September 8 to 12 2026, the on-site initiative brought interactive anti-doping resources directly to the Disc Golf community.

This collaboration actively supported WFDF’s broader strategic goal to ensure the well-being of athletes in the sport. A clean sport is one where athletes compete fairly, honestly, and within established rules. Because the Spirit of the Game requires athletes to avoid “win at all costs” conduct, including doping, empowering players with accessible education is vital to protecting the lives and integrity of the Flying Disc Sports community.

Driving Athlete Well-Being

The outreach effort was designed to seamlessly supplement the mandatory WADA ADEL online anti-doping education certificates that players were required to upload prior to the Championships. By engaging directly with athletes at the Pūčkorių Disc Golf Park, the Lithuanian National Anti-Doping Organization helped translate international testing standards into practical knowledge. This hands-on approach supports a healthy, lifelong “frisbee lifestyle” by ensuring athletes know how to make safe choices regarding their health and supplements.

Key highlights include:

  • Record-Breaking Reach: The on-site activation supported a record-breaking field of 47 registered teams representing 29 nations across the Open and Masters divisions.
  • Practical Guidance: Anti-doping experts provided real-time assistance regarding the current WADA Prohibited List, medication checks, and the Therapeutic Use Exemption application process.
  • Protecting Core Values: The educational opportunities reinforced that avoiding intentional rule-breaking and unsportsmanlike behavior is a fundamental requirement of the Spirit of the Game.

Collaboration and Next Steps

Partnering with national experts ensures that the Disc Golf community receives accurate, world-class support.

“Bringing local NADO experts directly to the courses in Vilnius transformed our anti-doping efforts from a mandatory checklist into a true community-building experience. When we educate our athletes on clean sport, we are not just enforcing rules; we are protecting their health and the fundamental fairness of international competition.” — Dr. Florian Beiglböck, WFDF Medical and Anti-Doping Commission Chairperson

Following the success in Lithuania, WFDF will continue to explore opportunities to integrate similar educational outreach at future global events. The federation is also committed to centralizing access to these educational opportunities through digital platforms like the WFDF Academy to create a sustainable ecosystem of learning.
