Catherine Fidd

Catherine Fidd (Cat) started playing ultimate frisbee at Florida Institute of Technology in 2018 and helped start and eventually captain the team which was the first women’s club sport in the history of that university. In 2022 she moved to Tallahassee, Florida where she is currently working towards a dual PhD in Materials Engineering, and Master’s in Biology focusing on evolution. Her research focuses on friction and wear of materials. She has numerous projects including but not limited to polymer composites, thin films, hydrogen exposed metals, snake skin, and bird beaks. She played for the Florida State University women’s team for her last years of ultimate eligibility. She is very involved in the frisbee community around Tallahassee, having served as a captain for a local ultimate league, organizing and attending goalti pickup games, and playing Double Disc Court. She has played club ultimate all around Florida, playing for Weird (Gainesville, 2021), Shipwreak (Jacksonville, 2022), Oasis (2023) and in 2024 founded and captained a Tallahassee based mixed ultimate team Tally SWAG.
