Holger Preuss is Professor of Sport Economics and Sport Sociology at Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz, Germany, is Adjunct Professor at UOttawa, Canada, and serves as International Scholar at the State University of New York (Cortland).
His academic work focuses on the socio-economic impacts and legacies of major sporting events, as well as the ethical dimensions in sport management. He was Chair of the supervisory evaluation committee for the social and economic sustainability of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games on behalf of Paris 2024, the IOC, and the OECD. In Germany, he contributed to the development of the National Strategy for Major Sport Events and the reform of the high performance sports for the Federal Ministry of the Interior.
Holger is a co-founder of the Erasmus Mundus Master in Sport Ethics and Integrity (MAISI) and co-initiated DAiSI (Doctoral Program in Sport Ethics and Integrity), a network of 17 PhD and 7 international sport partners writing their thesis on ethical challenges in sport.
He frequently advises international organizations. He is IOC commission member for “Sustainability and Legacy” and chair of the Ethics Commission of the International Eisstocksport Federation. His research and teaching consistently bridge ethics, sustainability, and the future of global sport.
