WFDF elections open

The 2004 WFDF Board elections are now open. There have been some delays in commencing the election due to the need to include some approvals for action of the Board in the past year, which the Board hopes will meet the scrutiny of the members. WFDF encourages all members to participate in this election – voting will close on Wednesday 23rd December 2004.

Should the observer rule go?

At the recent Congress meeting in Turku, Finland, the Swedish Frisbeesport Federation put forward a proposal to eliminate the observer rule from the rules of ultimate, citing it was contradictory to the central spirit statement of personal responsibility. The submisison was backed by experiences in Sweden, including a letter of support from a FIFA referee who agrees that the presence of on-field officials is detrimental to player behaviour. EUCC2005 will be in Rostock

The European Flying Disc Federation (EFDF) today announced that the European Ultimate Club Championships 2005 (EUCC2005) will be held in Rostock, Germany from 3rd to 9th July, 2005. An excellent bid was also submitted from Colchester, England. It is planned to have the following divisons at EUCC2005: Open, Women, Mixed, Masters. World Distance Champs preview

WFDF has sanctioned Big D in the Desert VI as the 2004 World Distance Championships. This year the event will be held from the 25th to 27th September at the California/Nevada state line in Primm Nevada on Ivanpah Dry Lake.

World Games qualifiers announced

WFDF has announced the qualifying countries for the 2005 World Games in Duisburg, Germany. The qualifying countries are Canada (44 points), USA (42), Australia (34), Finland (32), Japan (31) and Germany (host). Qualifying was based on final placings of teams at the recently-completed World Ultimate Championships 2004 in Turku, Finland. Each country was assigned points based on their best three finishing teams at WUC2004. See the attached file for the full points count.

Arizona to host World DDC Championships 2004

The WFDF World DDC Championships 2004 will be held in conjunction with the 29th Arizona State Flying Disc Overall Championship in late October 2004. See the tournament website for more details.

World Games 2009 awarded to Taiwan

The International World Games Association (IWGA) has selected Kaohsiung City – Chinese Taipei’s second largest metropolis behind the capital – to host The World Games 2009. Mayor Frank Hsieh and IWGA President Ron Froehlich signed the contract to have the eighth edition of the elite multi-sport event held between July 16 and 26, 2009, at existing venues in Kaohsiung City, Kaohsiung County and adjacent Pingtung County.

No changes to Ultimate rules for 2004

WFDF Ultimate Committee and the WFDF Ultimate Rules Working Group do not foresee any changes to the current Rules of Ultimate for the 2004 season. This means that the current rules (last revision 1/28/2002) will be used for play at the WUGC 2004 in Turku, Finland.
