WFDF Seeks to Fill Two New Full-Time Positions

Director of Communications and Social Media and Director of Membership Services and Sport Development positions available

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF), the international sports federation recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that is the IF responsible for world governance of flying disc (frisbee) sports, is seeking two individuals to serve as (1) Director of Communications and Social Media and (2) Director of Membership Services and Sport Development to support the growth of our expanding organization. These two new positions contemplate a full-time consultancy opportunity for each position. The positions are virtual and so the applicant would need to demonstrate access to the office equipment required to perform the job.

Director of Communications and Social Media

The communications manager is a full-time role to oversee media and communications initiatives for the international governing body for Flying Disc sports. The Director of Communications and Social Media would be responsible for both internal and external communications, as well as press releases, coordination with the media, and running our social media platforms. You will be responsible for implementing the overall communications strategy — as well as the priorities outlined in the Strategic Plan — for WFDF. WFDF strives to be an invaluable source of information and updates for the global Flying Disc community. WFDF is looking for a team-oriented self-starter who is able to work with different personalities across multiple time zones to achieve a shared vision. The Director of Communications and Social Media will report to the Executive Committee of the board.

Key Responsibilities

  • Writing press releases on short deadlines.
  • Creating and curating engaging content for daily legacy social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter/X, YouTube) as well as a willingness to experiment with emerging platforms.
  • Coordinating with media partners and external organizations on story ideas, interviews, event coverage and more
  • Engagement, including highlighting initiatives from our partners, promoting publications and reports from both inside and outside of WFDF, boosting social media content, and more.
  • Real time social media postings and other communications during events.
  • Production of short video clips for social media from action video and interviews during events.
  • Providing a welcoming place for dialogue and making ourselves available for interaction.
  • Building partnerships with other flying disc organizations on content promotion for WFDF platforms.
  • Responding to questions and concerns from players and fans.

Requirements

  • A minimum of two years experience in sports communications/marketing.
  • Experience in audience engagement strategy.
  • Experience with graphic design software and photo and video editing.
  • Superior analytical, communications and organizational skills.
  • Command of Microsoft Office or the Google Suite of products.
  • Strong project and process management skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent knowledge of English is required, proficiency in other languages an asset.
  • University degree or equivalent is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Flying Disc sports is a plus.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for events without undue restrictions.
  • Ability to work as required sometimes outside your time zone’s normal working hours to accommodate LOC’s located around the globe.
  • Access to an appropriate work environment, including computer, printer, scanner, filing system, phone and internet access.

The WFDF Director of Communications and Social Media is a full-time consultancy position with the expectation of working around 165 hours per month with minimal oversight on average throughout the year, with considerable variability over the year. The position is virtual and so the applicant would need to demonstrate access to the office equipment required to perform the job. The consulting stipend is US$45,000/year pro-rated and payable monthly, and all approved work-related expenses will be reimbursed.

WFDF Director of Membership Services and Sport Development

The Director of Membership Services and Sport Development is a full-time role to oversee membership services and sport development initiatives for the international governing body for Flying Disc sports. The Director of Membership Services and Sport Development would be the main point of contact for our member associations and with two way communication. WFDF is looking for a team-oriented self-starter who is able to work with different personalities across multiple time zones to achieve a shared vision. The Director of Membership Services and Sport Development will report to the Executive Committee of the board.

Key responsibilities

  • Plans and coordinates membership services and sport development strategy with Secretary General, including plans to connect National Federations/ Continental Associations with National Olympic Committees and other Olympic Sport Organizations.
  • Manages website member updates and WFDF’s address database; strong IT skills a plus.
  • Assists the Secretary General with administrative support and during meetings on memberships and development matters.
  • Coordinates Member NFs and Continental Associations activities and WFDF Development Grants.
  • Coordinates IOC Development Programme, use of the Development funding from the IOC/reporting.
  • Follows up on existing membership activities and helps develop additional services to build and maintain strong, long-lasting relationships with our members and Continental Associations.
  • Sustainability activities and climate change issues oversight.
  • Prepares presentations and makes analysis related to relevant research topics and collect best practices from Members and Continental Associations.
  • Helps coordinate Continental Associations and Commission activities.
  • Organizes and follows up the logistics of WFDF administrative events (Congress etc.).

Requirements

  • University degree or equivalent.
  • At least two years’ professional experience in a sports office environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of English is required, proficiency in other languages an asset.
  • Command of Microsoft Office or the Google Suite of products.
  • Excellent social and intercultural skills.
  • Demonstrable familiarity with Olympic Movement governance and activities is a strong plus.
  • Strong project and process management skills with an ability to work independently and solution-focused as no micromanagement is provided.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for events or meetings without undue restrictions.
  • Ability to work as required sometimes outside your time zone’s normal working hours for board or other meetings around the globe
