The World Flying Disc Federation welcomes 25 national teams to Varaždin in northern Croatia for the WFDF 2022 World Team Disc Golf Championship (WTDGC). This event will be WFDF’s fourth editionfor national disc golf teams and the largest to date. The WTDGC will be hosted over four days, from Wednesday, 17th August to Saturday, 20th August on two 18-hole courses located in the forests and on the Drava River embankment.

The competition format is four pools of teams leading to a Top 16 knockout event. Teams will have six athletes competing in each round – 2 women, 3 open, 1 masters – and there will be two singles matches and two doubles matches (with alternating shots). Rosters can include up to twelve athletes.

“Team disc golf is a riveting format for a World Championship and allows a variety of athletes from around the globe to showcase their skills,” stated Robert “Nob” Rauch, WFDF President. “As always, we appreciate the support and encouragement from the PDGA (Professional Disc Golf Association) and look forward to finding additional ways to cooperate to help grow the sport of disc golf worldwide.”

New countries in the competition this year include Colombia, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Switzerland, and Ukraine. The top seeds at WTDGC are Finland, Canada, and Estonia.

“The Local Organizing Committee led by Dinko Simene and WFDF Disc Golf Committee have worked for two years to create the largest, most inclusive Disc Golf event ever put on by WFDF,” said Charlie Mead, Chair of the WFDF Disc Golf Committee. “Team Disc Golf requires all members of the team to contribute on an equal basis with every hole and every match giving importance to the overall results – whatever the outcome of any specific game. With the introduction of Spirit of the Game scoring we also believe we are making large strides towards our goal of higher levels of international cooperation and future growth.”

The previous editions of the WTDGC took place in Vancouver in Canada in 2016, the English town of Colchester in 2017, and in Alutaguse in Estonia in 2019. Varaždin was also the site of the 2021 European Team Disc Golf Championships.
