WFDF, in partnership with Latitude 64 and Spinoff Games, is excited to kick off the WFDF 2022 Virtual Sports World Team Disc Golf Championship to be hosted by Disc Golf Valley. This event will be WFDF’s inaugural event for virtual sport team disc golf. The VSWTDGC tournament will run from Monday the 17th of January and conclude Sunday the 20th of February.

Disc Golf Valley (DGV) by Spinoff Games is an online game app that is supported on both iOS and Android OS where players use simple controls to play disc golf on a mobile device. DGV is home to some of the most beautiful and challenging disc golf courses in the world and aims to capture the thrill and excitement as if you were playing real Disc Golf and the App can be downloaded for free. Countries will participate in separate seven-day qualifier rounds in the period between 17 January and 13 February 2022. Any country that has at least one (1) female and one (1) male participating in the national qualification rounds will progress to the finals with a National representative team of two (2). Teams representing each country will playoff over the final weekend with a cumulative score for both players in all final rounds. The WFDF 2022 Virtual Sports World Team Disc Golf Champion will be awarded to the team with the lowest overall score. Players can follow their own scores and check out how they compare to other players from their country via the UDisc Scoreboard. The scoreboard will be live during the tournament.  Full details can be found at:  https://wfdf.sport/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/2022-WFDF-Virtual-Sport-WTDGC-Bulletin.pdf

“This virtual championship will provide the Flying Disc community with an interesting, fun opportunity to come together,” stated WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch. “In line with Recommendation 9 of Olympic Agenda 2020+5, which seeks to ‘encourage the development of virtual sports and further engage with video gaming communities,’ we hope our digital experience will grow direct engagement with new audiences and encourage sports participation, with a special focus on youth. We also want to thank DGV and Latitude 64 for their enthusiastic participation, and PDGA for its support and promotional help.”

Charlie Mead, WFDF Disc Golf Committee Chair, added “To plan a successful event with a fun and friendly atmosphere, we all need to work together to ensure players play respectfully and honestly. We have done our best to make the process as simple as possible in this first virtual event and are sure everyone will have a lot of fun along the way. There are no prizes, just the honor of the World Championship title, and we kindly ask everyone to participate with spirit of the game.”

Latitude 64 is a Swedish-based disc golf company that has teamed up with DGV. You will find their equipment, baskets, and discs throughout the game. Unlike normal use of the DGV app, the VSWTDGC will not require players to unlock discs to add to their gear bag. All participants will be provided with the same disc bag full of carefully selected Latitude 64 discs that are most suited for the courses they will play during the tournament with the inclusion of Putters, Midranges, Fairway, and Distance Drivers. All players have the same discs to use for VSWTDGC and your disc bag might vary between qualifications and the finals but will be likely to hold some of your favorites such as the Pure, Explorer, Ballista discs to name a few.
