The International World Games Association (IWGA) 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on May 1 in Esslingen, Germany with WFDF in attendance. Among the topics addressed during the meeting were current progress toward the 2025 The World Games (TWG) in Chengdu, China where Flying Disc will include both Ultimate and Disc Golf events, and the selection of Karlsruhe in southwest Germany as the host of TWG 2029. Karlsruhe is the first city selected to host TWG for a second time, with The Games returning to the city after 40 years. Karlsruhe last hosted the event in 1989, where Ultimate was featured on the invitational sports programme, the first appearance of Flying Disc at TWG.

“WFDF participation at the IWGA 2024 AGM is a great opportunity for us to engage in ongoing collaboration with other International Federations.” said WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch. “We are proud of our involvement with IWGA, of which we became a member in 1995,  and the successful history of Flying Disc at TWG events. We look forward to participating in Chengdu, where we will see the return of Disc Golf to the programme, and anticipate ongoing collaboration as planning gets underway for the 2029 TWG hosted in Karlsruhe.”

Ultimate has been on the official programme of TWG since the 6th edition hosted in 2001 in Akita, Japan, which also featured Disc Golf. With both events on the official programme for the upcoming 12th edition of TWG in 2025, WFDF continues to work toward the advancement of Flying Disc sports on the global stage.

In addition to the selection of the 2029 host city, the IWGA 2024 AGM also approved the memberships of the International Cheer Union (ICU) and the International Federation of American Football (IFAF), and formally established an Athletes Committee.

Leading WFDF’s delegation at the meetings was WFDF Secretary General Volker Bernardi, who also serves on the IWGA Executive Committee. He was elected to the IWGA Executive Committee in 2018 and is currently serving his second four year term. Director of Membership Services and Sport Development Dillon Richardson and Executive Assistant Oliksandra Boliak were also in attendance.
